My favorite character is Shane from the book High Heat. He is my favorite character because I can relate a lot of stuff to his life. His favorite sport is baseball and so is mine. In the beginning of the book Shane was a great student who had a positive attitude towards everything he did but then his father passed away and he changed completely. He started getting B’s and C’s instead of A’s and B’s, he starts drinking and smoking, and he loses all confidence towards sports. Another way I can relate to Shane is that his dad died. My dad didn’t die but since he travels a lot he is gone most of the year. I miss my dad when he is gone for a week I can only imagine how Shane felt losing his dad forever. Also at a point in the book Shane hit another player with a pitch. The player was injured and couldn’t play for awhile. After that Shane had trouble being confident on the pitching mound and started struggling with hitting the strike zone like before. I relate to this because if I am pitching in my baseball game and I hit someone I also have trouble getting my confidence back and throwing strikes.

1.    My favorite book is High Heat by Carl Deuker. This is because I absolutely love baseball and this book was about baseball. Also the boy in the book was my age so it was cool because I could relate to him throughout the book.

2.    My favorite genre to read is realistic fiction. This is because I like to relate to the people in the story and understand what is happening in their lives.

3.    I am currently reading Travel Team by Mike Lupica. This book is about a young boy who loves basketball. He is on the shorter side so when he tries out for his travel basketball team he gets cut. He then practices the whole entire off season and then next year at tryouts makes the team because he was better because he practiced so much. The stories theme is telling you to never give up on anything because anything is possible. This is the theme because the main character was so devastated that he got cut from his basketball team but instead of moping around or giving up he would go outside and practice his basketball game every single day.
